Resort Overview

Solden is most well-known for its nightlife, which tends to be quite rowdy. There are lots of bars and clubs for hectic nights out, with a largely German and Dutch clientele. The town isn't overly attractive and has spread down the valley over the years. Traffic is a slight problem, as are the varied locations of accommodation. Snow Overview - Austria  (snow news updated 16-May-2012)

Great skiing can be found in Austria with all but one of our featured glacier resorts open for skiing on Monday 14th May. The Molltal Glacier is currently closed before the summer ski season officially gets underway in June. Areas like Hintertux (375cm) and Dachstein Glacier (510cm) had lovely, sunny skies on Monday with lots of snow on the glacier. All six lifts were running on the Dachstein Glacier and with over five metres of snow on the slopes they should be in for a great summer. Heavy snow is expected across Austria on Tuesday and Wednesday with snow down below 1000m in many areas. This could amount to around 20cm of snow in higher areas with even resort villages receiving up to 5cm.

European Weather Outlook

Unfortunately it is set to be a wet and rainy week for the majority of European resorts. The good news is that snow may fall at a handful of higher altitude resorts in France, Italy and Switzerland. For instance, Chamonix and Nendaz could enjoy 11cm on Wednesday 2nd May.
